Blessing of the Animals

On October 8, 2022, Stone Church trustees and friends gathered for the “Blessing of the Animals,” honoring visitors pets and the local cows. The joyous occasion, presided over by The Rev. Susan McCone, began with the greeting…

“The animals of creation inhabit the skies, the earth and the sea. They share in the fortunes of human existence and have a part in human life. In most faith traditions, animals are understood as symbolic reminders of the Creator’s many gifts to humankind: animals were saved from the flood and afterwards became a part of God’s covenant with Noah; the paschal lamb brings to mind the deliverance of God’s people from bondage of Egypt; a giant fish saved Jonah, ravens brought bread to Elijah. All animals share with us in the redemption of all creation. So today we gather to ask for God’s blessing on our animal companions, thanking God for his goodness and mercy.”

Refreshments were served, and all the pets and their owners happily met and mingled. Check back next year this time for another Blessed Day.
